Grove Lodge
 Grove lodge is a building that people remember who have passed through Middleton-in-Teesdale.
Set on the right as you leave Middleton-in-Teesdale on the Alston Road this wonderful house is set apart from any other, set in its own grounds but, that is not what stands out when you see the house. I have had it described as a fairy tale home and just as the house with bay windows and it is the impressive bay windows that set this house apart as they extend from the house to be supported by stilts.
The feature of the bays supported on stilts is unique for the region and research has not found any other houses with this configuration, setting this as a very special house and its history is as unique. |
